[00:00:00]

[00:00:05] Welcome to the Good Pod, where today we're talking The Good Wife, season four, episode four. Don't haze me, bro. I am one of your hosts. Jason Reed with me as always, Marissa Garza. Marissa, you good? Yeah, I'm good. You good? I'm great. Marissa. I, my wife says to say hi. My, oh, thanks. My beautiful wife who I love and thank you.

[00:00:30] Do all the things too that a husband does to a wife, because didn't need to know all that, but okay. Yeah, sure. I definitely have a wife. She's, I know you do. She's a she. Just so everybody knows. Okay. I mean, if anyone was guessing, go ahead. Yeah, no, I know. Yeah. Thank you for clarifying, um, and telling your story.

[00:00:56] Yeah, I was, I was gonna to come down here to podcast. She was like, Hey, tell you, [00:01:00] hey, husband of mine, my sweet, sweet husband, uh, make sure you tell Marissa and all your listeners. I said hi. So I said I will, I will tell everyone that my will, my female wife said to say hi to everyone. I really hope this is the episode she listens to.

[00:01:14] I really do. Yeah. I, I I'll play. I'll do, I think it would be for sure, for sure. I'll play it for my wife, who I've been married to for over 10 years. Um, that's definitely, definitely real and, uh, exists. Yeah. I, I don't know how, I dunno what else to say. I mean, you don't have to say anything. You just, yeah.

[00:01:35] Just, just know that Yeah. It was a big topic in this episode though, like. You know, who wife, who has a wife, and who does have a wife, and what does it mean to have a wife, even if you're a man and what you do with your wife, and what does, does that define your sexuality? It was a very big, like what is your definition of is, is moment in this episode?

[00:01:57] Oh man. Yeah, that, so that was so [00:02:00] interesting to have our case revolve around this and the judge that we had and the way things went. So I can't wait to talk about that. Um, before we dive into the episode, uh, I wanna remind you listeners and watches out there of some free. Easy ways you can help this podcast.

[00:02:19] You can do that by reviewing, rating and subscribing wherever it's you're listening or watching. It helps greatly. It gets into the eyes and ears of more listeners, gets us into the algorithm, all that good stuff. Uh, you can also, uh, ask us any questions, give us any comments you have. If you want to email us at the Good pod, feedback@gmail.com, that's where you can, uh, talk to us about any and everything.

[00:02:40] Uh, also if you want to give, uh, monetarily you are willing and able to do that, if you go to, uh, buy me a coffee.com/good pod, you can donate an email you wish you don't have to. Uh, the show will always be here for you, whether you're doing it or not, but it's a way for you to tell us, Hey guys, good job.

[00:02:59] Good [00:03:00] job. Doing good. Doing a good job. Yeah. Um, so yeah, that's, uh, that's, and I, I gotta be honest, Jason, this is the only coffee I drink. Buy me a coffee. Coffee, yeah. Is the best coffee. That's the only time I buy coffees with any coffee. That's it. With any coffee, uh, donations. That's the only time I will buy a coffee is I feel like I am obligated to buy coffee with those proceeds and drink coffee, even though I don't drink coffee on the regular.

[00:03:23] No, no. Yeah. So, um, expander Coffee Horizon. Yes. Help us. Buy me a coffee. Help us buy some premium. Uh, bean coffees. Bean juice. We love bean juice. Bean bean juice doesn't come in a jar. Sorry. Sorry. Uh, I don't if anyone else's, uh, familiar with that, with that song, but, uh, it's a song for my childhood. Um, now that that is all out of the way, now we've gotten the silly out, let's.

[00:03:54] Let's talk about the episode, Marissa. All righty. All right. Uh, yeah, listeners, you should know. [00:04:00] We are, we are podcasting back to back today, so we're a little, a little goofy. Yeah. Uh, but the case of the week, not go, not goofy, not goofy, not goofy at all. Very serious. Not goofy at all. Yeah. So, uh, this week we have the family of Trey Lawson who was on the water polo team at Polytech University, Chicago Polytech University, which apparently is the only school in Chicago because Yeah, according to this show, everyone goes to this and like, even Neil Gross last up, last episode went to Chicago Polytech.

[00:04:29] So, you know, I get it. You can't like name something. That's a real, that's a real school though, right? Marissa? Is it? I don't think so. Is it? I, well, you're a Chicago person. I didn't know if you knew. I'm like, I don't think so. Wow. Interesting. I think, think it's a big school. I think that's why they made it is because like they can't like name any of the real schools because.

[00:04:47] That would make sense. Uh, lemme see what happens if I look up Chicago Polytechnic University. Uh, okay, here we go. Uh oh. Chicago Polytechnic University is not a real university. Yeah. But a [00:05:00] fictional one featured in the TV show. Shameless. How dare you. Oh my God. Oh my God. And not the good wife in your Google ai.

[00:05:09] That's so right. But those universities are those, these universes combine. Yeah. Yeah. So that's, that's funny. I, listen, I would, I would've loved to see Frank Gallagher somehow be, be defended by Lockhart and Gardner. Hilarious. That would be good. Um, that was the, that was the, you know, uh, the crossover we never got that we should have done.

[00:05:33] We shoulda have, there was enough people there for sure. I don't know if Bill Macy ever shows up on the Good Wife, but if he does. Okay. He was also in er, so you know, like he's everywhere. True, true. Um, yes. So yeah, Chicago Poly is not real. I guess it is just the catchall for any college related shenanigans going down on the show.

[00:05:53] Yes, yes. And apparently they have a water polo team that likes to throw this event called the junk the [00:06:00] day before the season starts. And Trey unfortunately, um, was drowned by Wayne Crockett during one of these events. And so what's hap this lawsuit is about the family of Trey Lawson suing the university for liability for Trey's death.

[00:06:15] And we start this EPIs, or start the case with the coach on the stand, and we see the, we see an EPIs or like we see a video of what happens. The first years are held under the water by veteran players and they try to drown, but like, not really, you know, they're like, that's not really supposed to happen.

[00:06:33] And the coach is like, but I never liked this. But, um, Diana probably sure. Like, but you knew about it, right? Like, this is a thing, a thing you knew about and the lawyer on the other side for the university says, but didn't you like tell them not to do this? Even though you were aware of it? Like you told them not to do it.

[00:06:50] Right? Like, so the university spoke through you and told them not to do it. They also had a teammate come on the stand and we're like, you know, [00:07:00] this is like a known thing, right? Like the dunk, this is an event that happens all the time. Is there like a wink week policy here? And didn't you also like get a text from your coach the night of the dunk saying Don't get drunk at the dunk?

[00:07:13] And so even though he might have said, don't do it, he absolutely knew about it. And we find out that the ask here is for $6 million. Yeah. Uh oh. That good. Because like you said, the coach is like, Hey, hey, hey. Like, because this is all about a liability issue, right? Right. The, the parents of Trey, we already got a conviction for the person that drowned.

[00:07:36] That's all getting wrong. Yes. His name is Wayne Crockett and he isly Wayne in jail. Wayne Crockett sounds like a name. You would say Wayne Crockett. Um, but yeah, now the parents are suing civilly the university because this happened on their watch. They trusted their, they trusted them with their son, and look what happened.

[00:07:54] So I think it is interesting that, you know, he's the, the coach is trying to like, play it off. Like, oh no, we didn't. [00:08:00] We did not, you know, we did not condone this behavior. But yet, but yet you're also texting about it and joking about it. And so, yikes. So you, you know, they, uh, the defense comes with a $500,000 settlement offer and our people are like, no, we want 6 million.

[00:08:19] That's what we're asking for. That's what we need. Uh, the other person, the, uh, the other lawyer played by John Glover, I think his name is, we've seen him before. Uh, I believe he has some hair. Huh? He has some. Pastor me. I know him as Lionel Luther from Smallville. He is, that's my guy. Oh yeah. I, I think he was, uh, I think he was with Patty Ol, uh, when she like, oh, probably, I think he worked for the insurance companies.

[00:08:44] She worked for. So maybe he's gone out on his own now. I don't know. Uh, but yeah, he is like, uh, he's like 500 k. I'm like, nah, we want all of it. We want all this. Yeah, we should. Yeah. And he puts, um, well, during, during, during the break, will calls Diane and this only comes [00:09:00] into play here because of, uh, Diane's mood changes during this.

[00:09:03] Mm-hmm. Yeah. During this case, Will's like, man, uh, the 27th floor is so depressing. Like, it sucks, it's gone. But if you really wanna get motivated, come down here. 'cause like, now I'm ready. Like, now I'm ready to get us back on track. So she's like, okay. Meanwhile, back in court, the teammate is still on the stand and the university lawyer asks about another text message that he received that night about Mary.

[00:09:29] Bring in the bruise. And at first I was like, who's Mary? Like, what's going on? And um, he, the lawyer asked like, is Mary Trey? And they're like, I don't know who Mary is. It's not Trey. But what the lawyer's trying to set up here is that Mary is a derogatory term towards someone who's effeminate, that they may be gay.

[00:09:52] And so therefore, if Mary equals Trey, this, this is beyond hazing, this is now a [00:10:00] hate crime. And I gotta say, to me it doesn't matter, liability is about where the fricking it happened. And if you knew about it. Yeah. So that's it. Because when they, they, when the guy, the kid on the stand, they're asking about it.

[00:10:11] They, when they mention Mary, you can tell he's like Uhoh. He's like, oh, this is not good. Um, but yeah, I think, I think it's an interesting argument to say like, well, you know, it doesn't matter 'cause they go into chambers and they're like, Hey, like it doesn't matter. Where this happened, this would've happened either way because it is a hate crime.

[00:10:31] Right? It doesn't matter where it happened, it was gonna happen. So I I, I, the logic to me is not loing like, but this judge we should mention, um, also has some, um, I guess I wouldn't call it that now, but maybe in 2012 would be seen as a effeminate quality. I mean, he is a very situation, he's a very soft spoken man.

[00:10:56] Yeah, yeah. But he, he, and he's also, as they mentioned later, [00:11:00] very swishy. He's like, okay, I'll allow it. Like I'll let this happen. Uh, yeah, I'll, I'll do this. Um, because he's really just kind of interested and intrigued by this argument. He is like, oh, well, let's see if you can prove it. Like, let's see if this is something that we can do.

[00:11:15] So we're just gonna let it, we're gonna let it happen. Um, so Diane, here's this. It's get, I gotta tell you. Getting Diana on a hate crime case is like, like she's, she is wound up. She is ready to go, but she stops by that seven 27th floor on her way back to the office. Mm-hmm. Just to pick up a little bit more ob um, motivation.

[00:11:36] And she charges all of that out of that, um, elevator ready to talk to Trey's family. And it's like, this is absurd. The defense wants you to settle. I cannot promise a win, but I'm gonna fight harder. 'cause I'm angry. And you should be angry too. We've had this a few times where our lawyers, whether it be Alicia, whether it be Diane or whether it be will, are spurned on by something else and they come, I'm there.[00:12:00]

[00:12:00] Yeah. Yeah. They come to their clients like, I'm ready to fight like hell for you. They're like, oh wow, you really care about us like. Not really. I'm just mad about something else. I'm gonna use that for this for you and also for me. Like you, your, our success here for you is a byproduct of what I'm actually feeling, but just go with it.

[00:12:19] 'cause you're gonna benefit from it. So don't, don't be complaining. I was like, I thought that was pretty funny of like, she was mad, you know? 'cause it's, it's like you said, Will's like, Hey, like. As, as we see will touring the 27th floor that's been kind of demolished. It seems like it's been like just, isn't it demo, like demolished, right?

[00:12:35] Like I was like, whoa, we did, did you said fire, did you say fire to the 27th floor or did you just like, could we just taken the lock car garden name off of the thing and probably still sold it to some other law firm maybe. But it looked like they really, they literally just set, set fire to the whole floor because it's like there's trash everywhere.

[00:12:54] It's dirty, it's dingy. Just like, what did y'all do here? Like, did you decide like, you know, [00:13:00] Hey we're, we're getting evicted. Yeah, we we're gonna party, we're gonna really tear this place up. We're getting evicted anyway. We might as well tear the place up. Because it really was, it was just like, what did y'all do in here?

[00:13:11] Like, it's crazy. Uh, but yeah, so Di Diane goes there and she's like, she gets mad. She gets, she gets robbed and she's like, we're gonna reclaim this for at some point, so I'm gonna get some money for my people so like we can get money so we can get back to our ways. I was like, okay, I guess we need motivation.

[00:13:26] Yeah, I mean, because a hate crime wasn't motivation enough, right? We have to, we have to get more motivation. Um, and she puts, she tells Alicia, get to get Kalinda to figure out if Trey is gay or not, which is just also like a horrible, like this entire case. I just personally wanna say horrible and uncomfortable.

[00:13:45] Just don't that I'm sure Jason agrees. Yeah, for sure. For sure. It's still play. It's a very, and it's a very like 2012 thing. Yes. Because I don't think it would've been handled with the same verbiage [00:14:00] now. I mean, or the same strategy, like go investigative, someone's gay or not. Like, like, like you can tell, you can tell that the kings like, they, they come at it.

[00:14:08] They come at it with the right. Intentions, but, but the dialogue is very like 2012. It's like we are, we as a, as a people, I mean as, I mean listen as people we're, we've still got works to do. See. Yeah. So some people are a lot more sensitive now to, uh, saying things, how they say things. I think, I don't even think you would find someone saying Swishy now.

[00:14:31] No, I don't think that would be a thing. So, no, this was before pronouns in your profile. This was before emojis. This was before ways that people felt comfortable even being, uh, queer out in public. You know, like this was still that time of, I think this is, yeah, this is still the time of don't ask, don't tell.

[00:14:50] You know, like there's. There's still that stuff going on. Not saying that it's much better now, right. Um, but we have enough capitalistic capital [00:15:00] behind it like this. We didn't have like Pride month sales or Pride month merch in 2012 that we do now. And so I think as horrible as that is, it has kind of like solidified it in the culture a little bit more than it was back then.

[00:15:15] Yeah. Uh, I think, I think the Kings would've handled this differently if this was 2025. Yes. Yes. Um, so yeah, so the, the, the, the, the, like you said the play, now we gotta prove the tree wasn't gay. That's what this is. This is what this is like turned into. And that's where it's like Diane's like get, get Kalinda on it.

[00:15:37] And Alicia's like, I will call Kalinda and tell her I. Will I tell her in person? 'cause that's, yeah. No, we can't do that. We can't do that. We can't do that. Not we do anymore. That's not, we do anymore. Again, we're back on our, uh, uh, we're on our watch. Lisa, Linda watch, no scenes shared together in this episode.

[00:15:56] Yeah. Yeah. Uh, uh, two E like, I wish I had [00:16:00] like a big like board four episodes since Glinda and Alicia have been in the same room. We should do that. That'd be pretty good. Yeah. Uh, meanwhile, Clark is still on his like budgeting business and he goes to, I thought this was a fair ask of CL Clark to be quite honest.

[00:16:17] Goes into Diane's office and says, you know, there's room for both of you here, you will. And Diane, because they've both visited the 27th floor. This is not something that they wanna, this is not something they wanna give in on this is it? Diane tells Clark, like, basically like, shut up. Like this is not it.

[00:16:39] And clerk is like, I'm trying to save you from yourself. And he says like, we have no, don't have the 27th floor anymore. We have people without offices. It's gonna hurt morale if leadership sacrificed something. Mm-hmm. It would help morale at, and both of them are like, no, F that, F that, we're not gonna do that.

[00:16:59] It [00:17:00] is like, poor Clark. Uh, he, he came, he came about this at the very wrong time because like I said, they, they've just been newly invigorated by visiting their shuttered offices and like, uh, Clark has got such a good point. He is like, how do you think it's gonna look if. You two at the head of the table have these two huge offices.

[00:17:22] Meanwhile, we have people out there qu Yeah. Squished, scavenging around trying to find places to work. It's not gonna look good for you. And they're like, nah bro. F it. 'cause you know what we're gonna get. We're gonna get our shine back and it won't even matter. This is temporary Clark, you're temporary.

[00:17:38] We're gonna get our offices back. It won't even matter F off bro. He's like, uh, or Diane goes, you can go to the bankruptcy judge with us if you want call, try to call us Bluff. I was like, yeah, will, will. Diane are fired up. Nothing like a, nothing like a will, will and Diane being fired up. And Clark this intern gets Clark fired up.

[00:17:59] Clark's fired [00:18:00] up in his own way because he's making new friends. He's making friends with Carrie. He is like, Hey Carrie, I've been noticing how good of a job you're doing and how long have you been, here's like two months. And Clark goes. You should have an office by the end of the day. I thought it was interesting because Clark was like, Carrie, you've been doing so good.

[00:18:19] Uh, at, you know, at, we haven't even had any cases go to court because you settle them before they even get to court. Yeah. Which is like, there's also a way to be like, you know, I think, I think we also knew this about Carrie, like before all the stuff went down at Lockhart Gardner, he was very good at negotiation.

[00:18:34] Yes. He was very good at, yeah. Uh, at keeping, keeping cases out of court, which, like when we first saw Kerry going to court, he was nervous because he had settled so many cases outside of court. He didn't know what he was doing. So it, I think it was kind of a check-in on Kerry to be like, Hey man, you're doing great.

[00:18:49] So Carrie's still around doing great things. He is like, and if you need anything, and I mean, I mean anything, anything, you just let me know Carrie, smart guy that [00:19:00] he is, sees it says the trap, edit this. He's like, what do you mean? Like. In the lunchroom? Like, what, what are you talking about? Like what, what, what?

[00:19:08] Like, I think he knows like, uh, this is not good. Well, course I'm not, I'm not getting myself caught up in this. Clark is like, I don't wanna limit your scope. Whatever you, the case is people lunch, whatever, whatever you think is great. Yeah. So this all comes together throughout the rest of this episode, but this, this whole 27th floor thing really was a, a big booster for our, for mom and dad.

[00:19:33] Back on the stand, we have Beth Alexander. Beth Alexander is someone who dated Trey, and Alicia is like. She's like, I'm so sorry, I have to ask you this, but like, did you sleep with them?

[00:19:46] She's like, yeah. And I was like, to the best of your knowledge, do you know if he slept with men? And she's like, no. He was very religious. You like, this is, he wouldn't, he wouldn't do that. Um, and then the, the university op, um, [00:20:00] lawyer is like, well, did you hear about a rumor that he was gay? And like really trying to like hone, hone this in.

[00:20:07] And also like the rumor was founded because he had a lisp and he was effeminate. And you know, like all this stuff, this throws everyone into cahoots. Like objection, objection, objection. So they go into chambers and at this point, this, again, the judge is like, I'll allow it. You just gotta find evidence of the mental state of the killer to like prove that this isn't the case.

[00:20:29] Yeah, I like, I guy is like, you know, the judge bangs his gavel. He is like, oh, like at the end he's like, oh, you may break my paper weight. Which I think is like, is him trying to be like, look at how feminist judge is. Right. I like, is he like, no, it was funny because I'm, I'm sure at the time everyone was like, is he, is he not?

[00:20:52] And I like, now I know 2025. I'm like, it doesn't matter. But like at the time I was, I wasn't even looking out for it until he [00:21:00] tells Diane, like he tells, 'cause he is got all the lawyers gathered. He was like, you know, people may think I was gay until they found out I had a wife. Well, and the, and the looks other feet.

[00:21:09] The looks, the looks, everyone, like all the lawyers to each other looks like. He's not gay. I thought he was, I definitely thought he was gay. I thought, I really thought he was gay. And then I was, at that moment I was like, oh, we're supposed to think this guy is like gay. We're supposed to think like, people think this man is gay.

[00:21:22] Interesting. Uh, I don't know. I, I laugh. I go, Faed laughed out loud when they did. They all show looks. I was like, oh, that's funny. He's like, I, I bet people think I'm gay. Believe, why don't I have a very real wife? Hilarious. Yes. Um, back in the office clerk trying again to solve all of this stuff says, Hey, Alicia, can you come into my office?

[00:21:48] You like Carrie, right? I'm like, yeah, yeah. I even recommended him to come here. Cool. You share an office now, bro. The way, the way this was revealed was so good because Clark [00:22:00] is just Clark's like, Hey, like, you like Carrie, right? She's like, yeah, yeah. She's like, she, she walks off and then she comes back like he's sh he's showing Carrie to his new office.

[00:22:08] He's like, Hey, guess what Carrie? You got office now. He's like. Uh, actually this is Alicia's office. Like, uh, what, what do you mean? Here comes Alicia. And it is like, oh, Clark's like, oh, you gotta share an office now. Alicia's like, she's like, ha, of course, of course. I didn't want anything to do with this, bro.

[00:22:27] I didn't do this. This is not me at all. Alicia's. Like I know, I know. It is an interesting callback to when Carrie first came back, he looks at Alicia's office and he is like, this is your office. Like, and at the time she's like, yeah, it's, you know, only 'cause I work with Eli because that's, that's why I got a big office.

[00:22:44] And now they're sharing the office in a very like, awkward setup. Like they're bo their desks are facing the same way. It's very weird. But anyway, Kalinda goes to visit Wayne, the killer confessed [00:23:00] killer. In, uh, in jail. And he is like, you can't touch me because I've already been convicted. And Clinda iss like, let me tell you what double jeopardy really means.

[00:23:10] Like, this is a whole other crime. This is a whole other charge. They're going to charge you with a hate crime. It is a federal crime. And she asks, Hey, was Trey Gay? I was like, no, Trey wasn't gay. He just, I just didn't like him. And Kalinda goes, well, well, you'll come on the stand and like say that. And he is like, nah, Uhuh, but I will help you.

[00:23:32] And so that's how we get introduced to Chad, who's next on the stand. I was trying to surmise, like, did Wayne, I, I know Wayne is responsible for Trey dying, but was this like, 'cause I know Wayne hated Trey, but did he actually mean to kill Trey? Like, I don't think so. I think he just, it was like a, I gotta confess or.

[00:23:53] I mean, he was found guilty of killing Trey. Yeah. Whether it was an accident or not, he would still go to prison for that. Yeah. But [00:24:00] the way that he is like talking about Trey, by still saying he hates Trey. I was like, had any question ended up, was this an accident or was this like you were actually trying to kill this man?

[00:24:09] Um, they didn't really give indication either way, but as you said, he gave Clinda a hard time. Like, I ain't, I ain't testifying. Which is very smart. Like, don't, don't get on the stand unless you like. Absolutely need to. 'cause as he says, his lawyer told him like, nothing good could come of this. Only bad will come of this if you go on the stand.

[00:24:27] So nah, you're not doing that. Spoiler. He ends up doing it later. But, uh, I like his initial response to Clint of like, nah, I'm good. But you know, he does, he does point her to, uh, his gay friend. It's like gay friend Chad. Yeah, Chad, uh, Chad and Wayne, they're buddies. They play Call of Duty one night. They get, go outside, they see that Trey and be are kissing and to, you know, Chad, he is like, this makes no sense because Trey has no game.

[00:24:56] Like, and they have talked about this and so, um, [00:25:00] the fact that Trey is gay kind of like throws the university for a little bit of a loop, but, um, they're asking like, why are you friends with Wayne? It's like, well, Wayne was the first person I told. When I was coming out and Diane was just like, oh, okay.

[00:25:20] Like she was on it in this situation. She was like, I forget what she said, but she's like, I'll withdraw. Like after that she was Well, yeah, I mean, 'cause of this, this, you know, it, we we're gonna find through the course of this trial that the other side, Andrews, who's for the university, is changing this constantly.

[00:25:40] He's not like a wheel of hate crimes. Yeah. And he's just like, right now it is gay. It's a, uh, queer, like L-G-B-T-Q hate crime. Uh, well, what could we do next? Yeah, because I mean, I think Diane, like what you're talking about, Dan's like, you know, Chad basically says, Wayne knew I was gay. He supported me. And Dan's like, well, [00:26:00] I guess that puts this tour rest, huh?

[00:26:01] Yeah. Yeah. Like you can't, he, he, Wayne didn't do this 'cause Trey was gay. That was great. She basically, Tracy turns to Andrew is like, Kobe, this is done dunked on your ass. And she's like, and before, before Andrew's even object, she's like, I'll draw it. I know you're gonna be a bitch and say, and start objecting.

[00:26:17] I'll draw it. And before he can even do that, got my face, which is like, you would think like, okay, Dan, you got served by Dan. This is over. Yeah, but not this guy. He gets, he goes back to Shannon and says, well, do you think it's possible that like we didn't, Wayne didn't see you as his gay friend. He saw you as his childhood friend, and that could be the tie that you guys have.

[00:26:41] And Chad's like, I guess whatever. But then it's like, Hey, did you ever see Wayne Mock Tray? Like, was there ever a moment like that, like. Yeah. And then objection, objection, objection, objection. Go into the, the, um, judge's chamber. Diane [00:27:00] is trying to convey to the judge like that this, this makes no sense because I, I think this is the hate crime against, I don't wanna put words in your mouth.

[00:27:10] Andrew, Mr. Andrew's, um, university lawyer, man, what would you say? While the judge is like sitting there doing like, yeah. What would, what would you say about me? Basically, because we're trying to, like, Diane's about to say, she's like, wait a minute. I'm about to say being Swishy in front of a Swishy man. No, he doesn't, she doesn't say Swishy.

[00:27:32] She, I think he's gonna use the word that's ment. Effeminate, yeah. So then whichever one it was, yeah. She's like, I, I don't wanna say this in front of the judge. Who is this? So I'm gonna. Toss it over to Andrew and make Andrew say it. And Andrew, Andrew goes in and says, uh, squishy people. It's like, oh, okay.

[00:27:50] Squishy. Oh, okay. The judge again allows this argument to happen. Um, we get Wayne on the stand and he is just like, I didn't like him. He was a [00:28:00] jerk. And then he brings up the fact that there was a time when Trey basically told Wayne that he wasn't black enough 'cause he's from the suburbs. And, um, Trey was from the south side of Chicago.

[00:28:11] And I'm sure there was a skin color, skin lightness thing. But I'll let you, Jason, talk to that because I don't know that world as much as you would unfortunately. Oh, I mean, yeah. Colorism is a very, very, very real issue. It's an issue that I have faced in my life for not being the correct skin tone, uh, in a environment where there are people that were very much darker than I, I always look at it a different way.

[00:28:37] So it, it's a. It is an issue that's been prevalent in the black community for decades and decades and decades still is, uh, will probably will never not be an issue. Let's just put it that way. Yeah. So it is a very real issue, but as my wife says, as my very real wife always says, black is black and it don't crack.

[00:28:55] Um, but it's true. Yes. It, it is an issue. And, and this is very like [00:29:00] this case, this what basically what, uh, Wayne is saying is very relatable to a lot of people because, you know, Trey looked down on Wayne because Wayne was a lighter skin tone. Then they're both black. But um, yes, Wayne is lighter skin tone.

[00:29:15] So Trey would, uh, mock him for that, call him an Oreo, and it just, anytime there's like a colorism, anything, it just sh shows and underlines the um. The power of whiteness and how much people even who aren't white, but have a part of white in them, are trying to, you know, like in between those two different worlds and look down upon in their own culture.

[00:29:40] I get it sometimes too. Being half white, half Mexican, I'm not Mexican enough, I'm not, you know, white enough. So, um, this in parts of the world, they sh they sell bleaching creams to get, for people to change the color of their skin. So people wanna be white so bad that [00:30:00] this is a conversation that happens every day.

[00:30:03] I know. In America and I know around the world. So, yeah. Um, yeah, I mean, yeah. I, I have in my life been called an Oreo because I am biracial, so that's like, especially when I was a kid in, in middle school in a predominantly black neighborhood. Not fun. Let's just do it that way. Yeah. Um, so it, it is, it's been an issue for a long time.

[00:30:23] Will be an issue. Probably forever. 'cause let's, let's be real racism, colorism is not going away anytime soon. I mean, unless someone unplugs the earth and then plugs it back in. I think we've got, we've got like, we've got this programming unfortunately for a long time. Anytime I have a defective device to unplug and plug that in, have you tried that with the world?

[00:30:46] Have you tried it with society? Hey, let's try this society. Why don't we like that? That'd be a good idea. Did you try turning it off and turning it back on again? Uh, yeah. Yeah. So this is the situation like Wayne's, like I didn't like him [00:31:00] because of that. Not because he was a, a feminine or anything like that, but because there was this colors colorism conversation happen happening.

[00:31:09] At this point, he is questioned by Diane. Like, what fraternity did you. Belong to and he tells them, oh no, it's questioned by the university, like what FRA fraternity did it belong to? And apparently there were two fraternities, two black fraternities that had a rivalry on campus and Trey was in, or Wayne was in one and Trey had pledged the other one.

[00:31:32] But now, so now on the wheel of hate crime, we have moved from uh, LGBT Hate crime to black on black hate crime. Yes. So he's just like, it's like he's a lighthouse, kind of just like trying to search for something to stick here. And we have will Diane, Alicia and Carrie at the table to talk about this Carrie's hanging out, I guess for whatever reason, because he is not, [00:32:00] he's not an official part of this case.

[00:32:01] He's just, just hanging out. He's just with his buddies at the school lunch table. Like yeah, he is like just shooting the shit. I curiously, they say like, oh, there's been fights between these two, um, between these two frats. And carrie's like, oh, that's good. They're a fight. So I wanna remind you that this is the case about liability.

[00:32:20] And that Diane like, yes, I'm gonna take the coach back on the stand like the white knights come riding in through the sandstone. For real, for real. I am. Carey, let me remind you of how cool and great I am. Because it is important because this case has spun off so far afield from where we started, which was like, this is about the school's liability.

[00:32:47] Yes. And Carrie, who is a like impartial observer to this case, because he is not on it, is like, well then that means the school's a spousal, right? 'cause it was a school sanctioned. Fraternity beef, like so you can put it back [00:33:00] on the school. They're like, oh my God, I forgot it was a Robin school. Even Will was like an impartial, it wasn't even in it either.

[00:33:09] And he's like, oh boy. It was like, oh boy, black on black crime. I don't know what to do. Listen, Will's got his own stuff going on at the moment. He is, he's, he is probably just randomly checking in on this thing. Carrie, Carrie, who is, you know, always trying to prove himself, always trying to, uh, get in where he can fit in, is the one to like, bring it back around to the real topic.

[00:33:30] Like it was just like, oh my, like yeah, that's right. We're fighting against a school like duh. That they forgot. And that's also like very, it's very Carrie, but it's also I think what he had to do at the state's attorney's office. Like, this is the case. Mm-hmm. This is the case we're trying, this is it.

[00:33:47] Don't try to go away from this case. This is the case. So he was able to kind of pull everybody back. Uh, we get the coach back on the stand and he's questioned, you know, like, did you, you, this is the first time [00:34:00] you've had two people from these two frets on your, on your team. And he's like, well, uh, we didn't have a lot of opportunity to have black athletes on the team, so, yes.

[00:34:09] Uh, but were you aware of the animosity between these two frats? He's like, he's like, no. Uh, but then Alicia's like, didn't you get notified about an incident between these two frats? Is that you right there on the delivery list? And he's like, yeah, I guess. Well, were you aware that Trey pledged the other frat?

[00:34:28] The. That, that Wayne was in, like, no. Oh, no. Interesting. Here's a photo of you standing next to Trey in a t-shirt that he is wearing with the, uh, fraternity's name on it. So what about that? What about that? And university lawyer says, uh, he goes up to the stand. He's like, well, well, you can't like prove that he was killed because it was black.

[00:34:52] Which I'm just like, but, but you did, you, you proved that And all Diane did was prove [00:35:00] that the university knew, therefore the university is liable because they sent the email to everyone saying, Hey, there was this incident between these two fraternities. Yeah. Which, and they end up getting like the original ask.

[00:35:13] Yeah. Which is like, but so what would've been the solution here is to not have one of them on the team because they were the fundraiser beefing. I was like, no, no, no, no, no. I don't think this, that that's the solution. She just needed to prove that, like the university kept saying that they didn't know, or like this is the, when they did know, because not only did he get the email, but he also stood next to Trey that had that.

[00:35:40] Right. So he should have like, but if I'm the coach, if I'm the coach, I'm like, well, I can't control, like, no, he can't. No. Who, like I of the school can't control who pledges with, I think they just needed to show to the jury that Trey was in this thing by, by way of this picture. They had to get the picture into [00:36:00] evidence.

[00:36:00] Yeah. I get it. It it, the, it felt a little, the logic to me felt a little flimsy by the end. For sure. I was like, okay. I was like, all right, fine. I, I, I feel like the show proved its points, uh, whether it made. A lot of sense in the, in the storyline of it. I was like, I feel like we got enough, like social comments.

[00:36:19] I feel like this is a very social commentary, e uh, case. I mean, which is what, you know, the Kings will do from, uh, you know, a lot. Uh, there's a lot of cases that are, that comment on social, uh, social issues. And it felt like this was really more of a social issue case than a case case. 'cause there are some cases where it's not, it doesn't have a lot of social commentary.

[00:36:40] This case had a bunch of social commentary. I feel like the Kings did get their point across. I just know. How effective the ending was. Logic wise to me it was just like, I think they started at the time, they're like, okay, we're gonna have this case, we're gonna have this case. And then like we have to win.

[00:36:54] Like Diane has to win because she has to like the law and she has to be like ready to go. And at the end of this episode, she [00:37:00] is like kicking off her shoes, leaning back, and then she says to Will, we're gonna get our firm back and then we're gonna open up in New York and we're gonna open up in DC and if you listen to our coverage or watch Lizabeth.

[00:37:14] We know that Diane is in DC but does work in New York. That's all I'm saying. I don't wanna spoil how we get there. I don't wanna say anything, but the fact that this was planted this far back in the series is pretty cool for someone who's watched the whole series. Uh, and both like, I love it here.

[00:37:30] Welcome to the lifeboat. We got nothing to lose. Like, this is great. I'm glad you finally joined me. So they're gonna be quite the formidable team. I love that Diane is, uh, feeling herself. Uh, yes. You know, at this moment we just need Kurt to call. Why are you, Kurt? That would be a good time for Kurt to call.

[00:37:47] I don't, I don't need no dirty Ozzy. Get him outta here. No. Gimme Kurt. Gimme Kurt. So that was our case of the week. We also had some action on the campaign. And unfortunately there's a lot of Jackie. [00:38:00] And also, listen, listen Marissa, you, it wasn't bad, a bad, bad take where you can get it right. We did not get a Kalinda wick storyline.

[00:38:07] Yeah, I know. Exactly. Exactly. Exactly. So thank, thank you lucky stars that we were saved from that. But you didn't have to like, yes. You didn't have to eat your eat, eat your, what do they call it? Uh, you had to eat your vegetables. You know, it's, it's a trade off, right? You didn't get Alin. That's, but you still had to eat the Jackie episode.

[00:38:23] It's true. It's true. So Jackie's outta the hospital, we hear Peter with, I do just have to mention it's really distracting how bad his hair is by, in this episode. It's just like really bad, like it's like super gray in areas and then like a red brown. I was like. Were you on some sort of movie or something like, this is not, not normal.

[00:38:42] But, uh, while he is wheeling Jackie out, um, Peter tells Jackie and us that the doctor said there's no permanent damage to the stroke here. Uh, meanwhile Eli and Alicia are back at the magazine, kind of like trying to wrap this whole thing up. Alicia's [00:39:00] giving her time being questioned. She's trying to establish, you know, like a timeline.

[00:39:04] Eli's on the phone with Peter. Jackie of course, wants to know because she is like dressed to the ninth. She's like, I am ready to go back on the trail. I am here. And Peter, is it Alicia? Is Alicia hurting you? And, and Peter's like, no, ma, she's being great. She's like, I don't believe you. She's like, I'm so, so mad.

[00:39:24] It's kind of crazy that. E that Peter is number one. Like allow, like Jackie's going straight from the hospital to a lunch, a campaign campaign for Peter. Yeah. I was like, Peter, why are you letting this happen? I, I feel like, uh, coming straight from the hospital, from a, from recovering, from a stroke, and she'd be like, on bedrest or something, like, why are you pimping out your mom like straight out of the hospital?

[00:39:47] I was like, damn. Like, that's crazy. It's a lot. It's a lot. Uh, and back at the magazine we learned about two dates. So we have August 21st, 2012. That's when, um, endear Star is [00:40:00] claiming that Alicia saw them at home and told them, you know, it's okay, it's an open marriage. Alicia shuts that down real quick, shuts it down.

[00:40:07] And then, um, there's another date of September 30th, which we had, was the one they thought that, like, the one that Alicia thought was with her and Will. Um, but it was at a, at a hotel and Alicia's like, no, we didn't talk. Eli gets Kalinda on this basically to check it out. Um. Eli's like, I think I was in the adjoining room to Peter at this point, so why don't you check into it?

[00:40:30] They're trying, trying, trying to get this, this case killed. Yeah. I, I was like, at the moment where Eli goes, you know, I think I was in the adjoining room with the door open. I was like, why would you do that? Like, were you, Eli, like, I'm not sure if you're, I'm not sure if he's trying to cover, like, just to make sure he is covering tracks or like, I don't know what the point of that was, but we kind of out.

[00:40:51] Yeah, that was weird. Kind of find out later. That might not have been the case. I was like, are you just trying to still convince Kalinda like this? Like no, this [00:41:00] definitely did not happen just by lying and saying you had the door open, Jackie. I don't know. Yeah, I, I don't know what it was because when we find out about it doesn't really make that much sense.

[00:41:12] Um, Jackie's speech, giving a speech at the Alliance of Retired Americans and she decides to talk about. How Peter has always had issues with women coming after him. He is handsome, you know, like you can't blame him. He's handsome. It's these women, they just keep coming after him. And meanwhile, Eli is, I don't know.

[00:41:33] Yahoo, man, I forget what his name is. Uh uh, moody. Uh, yeah, pretty kind of like his fixer. Yes. It feels like we've seen this guy before. We saw him when Peter was running for state's attorney. He is, uh, he's kind of like Eli Heman, I guess you could say. Yeah. Uh, so yeah, he's like, take taking video of Jackie and then the also like, Hey boss, just FYI, this is what's happening.

[00:41:57] Listen to it for yourself. And at this point I [00:42:00] think Jackie says, you just gotta beat them away with a stick. Oh man. It's like, yeah, that's not, not a good look. You should not be to using the term, beat them off with a stick to talk about really anything. Especially in like relation to women. Like, it's just Yes.

[00:42:14] Not a good soundbite to have. And I Moody's like, let me pull up my flip phone talk to get it with you. Like, oh my God. Like, how is 2012? Like, and, but it's also like, so. Eli is so pissed about this. He makes Moody put, take the phone to Jackie so he could talk to Jackie in the middle of the speech. And Jackie's like, hi, I'm giving my comments.

[00:42:38] Snap like, bye. Jackie's back baby. You missed the satisfaction of the snap. Yeah. Oh yes. Very so proud. It's, you know, we, we went from the satisfaction of hanging up on somebody like, and them hearing it and feeling it with like a physical, uh, you know, phone thing into a cradle. Yeah. We went to the cordless phone, we couldn't really do that.

[00:42:58] And then went to a flip phone [00:43:00] where you feel, you feel satisfaction for yourself to flip it. The other person doesn't hear it on the other end, but it's satisfying for you now. Yeah, we don't really have anything like that. Like, I don't get satisfied by hitting the little red circle to like hang up on someone.

[00:43:15] That's nothing. I don't, I don't hear a sound. That's why people like Chuck their phones, but I can't do that 'cause they can't get a new phone like every five seconds, you know? Yeah. No, not at all. No, I'm, I'm still rocking a iPhone 11, so I, I hear you. Can't happen. Can't happen. Uh, Eli is very upset by this.

[00:43:32] Jo decides to have a talk with Jackie. Jackie, Jackie is like, she's thinking she's Jackie O at, at this moment. She's like, Eli. Don't bark at me. And Eli's that wasn't barking. This is barking. So good. And the way Eli, like we've talked about before, the physical comedy of Alan Cumming is second to none.

[00:43:53] Where he like gets enraged as moody. When Moody calls him earlier, he is like, he seems like, what? Is he kicking a table or kicking the [00:44:00] chair? Yes. Like, oh my God, he's, wait, he just had an ask for Jackie. He's like, I wish he, he probably wishes he was still convalescing in the hospital. So he, he doesn't have deal with this, with his Jackie stuff now.

[00:44:10] Well, and she, that's basically what he does. He's like, until you behave, you're gonna basically be on the B team and you're gonna go speak at the regional center, senior center of Greater Borton Grove. It. She's like, oh, I've never heard of it. I think this Eli's like Exactly. That's the point. Exactly. And during this conversation, Maddie Hayward, AKA more Tyra comes in and.

[00:44:32] Like says, Hey, look, I've got some questions. I got some concerns here. There's some rumors going around the Women's Leadership Forum about Peter, and I just wanna remind you, I only said I would donate as long as Peter kept it in his pants. Um, very concerning to me. Eli tries to give her the, like, he's a politician.

[00:44:53] People are gonna come after him, but you can be rest assured that this isn't nothing. And he asks at the end, like, did I [00:45:00] assuage your fears? And she says, I don't know. I like, I like Maddie Hayward a lot. Yeah, she's cool. She's, she's a no-nonsense. Uh, you know. Person out there. I like her. Yeah. So Eli's like, okay, I know what I'll do.

[00:45:13] I'll go over to Alicia and I'll say, Hey, I know you're having drinks with Maddie later, so why don't you just like, bring this up and then like, ask it or like say that there's nothing to it. And Alicia's like, how about no. But if she does bring it up, I will say something. You gotta take what you can get.

[00:45:31] Eli, that like, like Alicia, like calling Eli. I was just like, all right, like you're, you're at, you're doing way too much now. Like, I know I told you I would be like more like down for the cause, but you are coming to me every week with something new, so like, you need to chill, bro. He's like, he's like, I promise I'll, you know, this is the last time or whatever he says.

[00:45:51] The last time. The last time. Yeah, the last time. Time. We haven't even had the primary yet. You know what I mean? Like yeah. There's, there's a lot, a lot of time left. A lot of thing left. [00:46:00] Uh, Kalinda is investigating at the hotel. She finds out from this very odd conversation with the. Concierge lady. I don't really know what was going on there.

[00:46:11] Maybe it's, maybe it's just about kalinda and like what we're used to vibes from her vibes. Vibe. But yeah, vibe vibes. The chemistry and the vibes were like vibing and chemistry. Like, I was like, oh my God, please not tell me. Like Kalinda is going, like, we're, we're gonna like, we're gonna pan over to the hotel room and they're gonna have having sex in the hotel room.

[00:46:30] And Lin's getting her information from there. We kept it pg, we kept it cute. Maybe it was the other actress, uh, in the scene and how like the, maybe the dialogue or how the acting, 'cause it was mostly coming from, from her. Her, yeah. Yeah. I was just like, this is a vibe here. Like what, what is this? Like, I don't know.

[00:46:47] I don't, maybe she had seen a good wife before. She's like, oh, this is an Archie job. You're supposed to act sexy. They're like, you don't have to act so sexy or so like, it was Weirdy. Uh, but yeah, like she, she gives good information though. Yeah. We [00:47:00] learn in this situation because. Because Eli told Kalinda about the connecting doors thing.

[00:47:04] She's like, I just wanna go see the room and see the connecting doors. And the lady at the hotel's like, well I could tell you they weren't open because they have to be open by staff, which is very weird. But apparently they would have like a record. I think that makes sense though. Like you don't want any old Joe Schmo being able to open the door, joining the door adjoining new room.

[00:47:21] Oh yeah. No, that's fair. That's fair. I think maybe they must have like unlocked it or did it before. I've gotten into those rooms that I've had adjoining with people before because like when my family goes on vacation, sometimes we'll have like an adjoining room or, or this could be more at, I don't stay at fancy enough hotels that, there you go.

[00:47:39] Possibly. Possibly. That's probably probably it. Um, so we learned that the connecting door had to be opened by the staff and there's no record of that from the night in, the night in question. And also to get up to the 15th floor where Peter was staying, he needed a little concierge card. You need to have special access to be able to hit.

[00:47:59] 15th [00:48:00] floor. So Clinda iss like, this is great. Thank you so much. The hotel, hotel lady is like, at certain points in this conversation. One point she's like, oh, I seem to have displeased you. Now the end, at the end, when Clinda finds out about the concierge, she's like, oh, I seem to have pleased you now. I was like, are you doing improv?

[00:48:15] What is written? What is this? What is this? Exactly, exactly. Savannah and Alicia have some drinks. We learn that rich people just get things for free. Which, you know, we learn, we know even more in 2025. Um, and Alicia's like got this information from Eli in her head, and she's also like still wondering after many drinks in, it seems, um, why you wanna be my friend?

[00:48:40] And Betty's like, like this again. Like, what, what? And Alicia then is like, well, thank you so much. Let me just share with you what I'm going through. I'm, I had to go talk to a press, talk to the press about this rumor that my husband's about, uh, or that's about my husband, which isn't true, but thank you so much for donating to [00:49:00] his campaign.

[00:49:00] And also this rumor isn't true. And Maddie is like, okay, I'm so sorry you're going through that. And also, did Eli tell you to say that? And she's like, uh huh. Alicia, bad, bad news. Alicia. You failed. You failed the vibe test. You, you really, you really did. Like, it was supposed to be a natural conversation.

[00:49:21] You know, you told Eli you weren't gonna bring it up yourself. You gonna let Maddy bring it up? 'cause that's what would've been the thing to do, because I think eventually Maddy would've gotten around to it. But, you know, like, uh, support all that out like that is like, oh, this is not, this is not cool. This is not great.

[00:49:36] Like, she was like, so she was gonna have her driver take her home, you know what I mean? Like this, they were, they were vibing. They were on the friendship vibes, you know? Mm-hmm. Like, they were building, they were going, yeah. I as mad. He's like, uh, check please. Like, yeah. Like, type out, get outta here. Alicia sees Alicia's like, oh, I've, I have messed up, huh?

[00:49:54] It's like, yeah, get this. Yeah. Yeah. Meanwhile, Jackie at, uh, the senior center of Greater [00:50:00] Morton Grove is hallucinating bugs during her, during her, um, speech. At first I thought it was just bad. CGI, you know, it was 20. Well, it really was. It was bad cgi It was horrible. It was, I was like, wow, this is like, this is how bad it was in 2012.

[00:50:17] I'm like, because this is awful. This is real bad. I could do this. It was like they took like little clip art of the bugs. Yeah. And then just like moved them around the screen. Yeah. So, no, but I do think it was like just really bad CGI, 'cause I think if you're But I don't think the bugs were real. No, they weren't.

[00:50:34] They weren't. Yeah. But if you're hallucinating bugs, I feel like you're not hallucinating bad. CGI bugs. Yeah, that's right. You're halluc, you're hallucinating real looking bugs, which I don't know if, uh, what's the lady's name? Uh, Mary Beth Pell. Is that the actress's name? Jackie? Yes. Yes. I just, I just pulled that outta my head.

[00:50:50] You like you did. Um, I don't know if she's just like, I can't. Do real cockroaches, I feel like this would've come across like [00:51:00] so much more, so much more better. That's not how you say that. So much better if they were real cockroaches, like, you know, or something in, in reality. Yeah. Like, I don't know, she just has an aversion to that or like what the plan was here.

[00:51:14] But it, i, it, it distracted me. 'cause I was like, that's just really, really horrible looking at CGI, these cockroaches. Um, but yeah, she, see, I, I at first thought they were like, they were supposed to be real Agreed. That shows like how rundown this place is. How far she, Eli has her, sorry. No, sorry. Morton Grove.

[00:51:35] Like, sorry. Yeah. We don't, we don't need to. Mor Grove a real place. Is that Chicago? Yeah. Oh, okay. Sorry. Sorry. Morton Grove. Um, but yeah, I thought, I thought the bugs were real. At first I was like, oh crap, this is like how far she's fallen. But then it's obvious that these are. She's hallucinating these bucks.

[00:51:51] Yeah, I know. And I know I said she picked Yeah, this job. Well, you feel bad now, don't you, don't you? I don't feel bad. [00:52:00] I don't feel bad because I would still would not put a past her. I am pick on, pick on poor, old and firm Jackie. No, God, gosh. You, you heard it here folks. Marissa hates senior citizens. She thinks every illness that senior students come up with are fake and made up.

[00:52:18] I You heard it here. I told the editing of the episode. You heard it. Here they what you want. Listen, I may be silenced by, by my big good pod, AKA, Marissa Garza. But I at least have to say, even if it gets cut out, Marissa hates old people. It won't, and I don't, things are all faking their illnesses. Uh, your memaw that has a, that has sciatica.

[00:52:43] Marissa. Anyway, Eli is reviewing the tapes of the speech and he's like, this is horrible. Like I cannot believe, like what is wrong with her? Like she's like, she's glitching or something. Like something is going on and Peter walks up, he thinks she's [00:53:00] doing it on purpose to be like, Eli. Yeah, like to take it.

[00:53:02] Yeah, yeah, yeah. And Peter, we in and he's like, oh, there's mom. Oh mommy, mommy. Oh, that's so nice. Like got like a toddler. Mommy. Mommy's on the screen, mommy's here. Like, no, Peter is just on the tv. She's not really here. Mommy like bro, grow up. Like, he's like, oh, it's well's weird. Like bro, like how old are you?

[00:53:21] Oh God. On. And basically Peter's like, uh, well, Eli's like, she's saying it like something, something's up, something's up here. Peter's like, I don't care really. Um, she's my mom. She's gotta get her, her legs back under her. And she just had a stroke and she wants to be involved. And Eli's like, uh, mommy gets what Mommy wants.

[00:53:42] Yeah. Yeah. I just, I still don't understand that. I don't see what a bit. This is, this is definitely my bias towards Jackie. I'm like, I don't see what value she brings to the conversation. I mean, she talks, she talks to the, she talks to the oldies. I mean, and I, she talk to old people and I, and I think like, because, [00:54:00] uh, Peter is a democratic candidate and I feel like traditional values.

[00:54:05] Yeah. Yeah. Some of the older folks might not love the democratic value. So I think they need someone that talks their language that, uh, you know, can relate to them out there fighting for Peter. So I think it, it makes sense. It's not a huge demographic that she's reaching. She's not reaching black voters.

[00:54:20] Please do not put Jackie in front of any black voters. That will not go well. Uh, but I think she has her niche, she has her niche of the older silver hairs. Uh, you know, the, the silver hair community, especially the women, I think is where we're trying to, uh, deploy Jackie the best. Yes. At this point. Okay, so Eli's like, I have to do something about this.

[00:54:40] I know what I'll do. I'll go talk to Alicia in Alicia's new office, which is shared with Carrie, and we're gonna try to have a conversation about three different things at the same time. Boy oh boy. The, the co the, the physical slapstick comment, this wasn't really slapstick, but the physical comedy this was, but seeing all three people try to have diff their [00:55:00] own conversations in the same space and how much it, it was chaotic.

[00:55:04] Uh, is funny. I think kind of proves Clark's point to be like, Hey, like we're having to double up offices. It's not gonna go good. Yeah. Because, because Will and Diane refuse to downsize their offices, we got less space. Well, so he's like, let me pick the two power players underneath them and get, annoy them and see what happens.

[00:55:24] Yeah. Good move. And Alicia's like, okay, well give her something to do. Like just give her like, this again isn't rocket science, Eli, you should know this, by also dealing with Jackie for like 800 gazi times. Yeah. Okay. It's like the eighth. This is the eighth power struggle, power struggle that Ja, that Eli and Jackie have, have fought.

[00:55:41] You think you would know by now. Make Jackie feel important and you'll get her on your side. That's what you gotta do. Yeah, that's right. And Alicia, Alicia basically tells like, give her a toy to play with and she will leave you alone. Like it is like dealing with a toddler. Like give like, and I don't do, I did not do this.

[00:55:58] I have not done this. Give the kid an [00:56:00] iPad and I'll leave you the F alone.

[00:56:05] Uh, Kalinda is out interviewing Indira, which I just have to say was probably in New York and not Chicago. Like every time they're in a park I'm like, you are in Central Park. Like, I don't know where you think you are, but Okay, whatever. Um. Glenda's interviewing Adera and, and, um, she asks, you know, like, can we tape this?

[00:56:25] And she was like, I have nothing to hide. Yeah, it's totally fine. I was at this rally and then I hit it up with Peter and Peter said, why don't you come to my room afterwards and we can talk about career options? And I was on the eighth floor, so I had to go up to the 15th floor. And Colin's like, cool. Um, did you have like a key to get into this room?

[00:56:46] I was like, no, we were just gonna knock. We're so cute. Basically Colin was like, okay, cool. Was anyone in the elevator with you? She's like, no, I made sure I was alone. I'm that smart, basically. Okay, great. Where'd you get the [00:57:00] concierge key? She's like the what? The, the who what? The what? The what? Where. Poor, poor, little dumb, innocent end dira fell right into Clinton's trap.

[00:57:11] Clinda asked, like the extreme pointed questions of like, if you, if this was at any time real, you would know these simple facts of you could not get up to the 54 without a, uh, an employee, you cannot do this or that. She's like, she lays all out there for endear of like, Hey, like, all right, you're lying.

[00:57:29] She reels her in, like, yeah, gotcha. And like literally tells her like, okay, girl. Like, jigs up. You're lying. You're, you, you're, you're full of hooey. Well, but maybe there was someone in the alley. Oh, yeah. I can't remember. Yeah. Now I remember. She, she plays this entire tape in front of Eli, Mandy, and the old guy Richard, who apparently, I guess the head of the LY is like editor in chief or something.

[00:57:52] I don't know. He's, yeah, I guess he's the head of the magazine. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And Eli's like, okay, case [00:58:00] closed. Like, we've given you a lot, we've given you access, we've done all this stuff. This proves that there was nothing there. You're gonna have to kill the story. So now we get to the straw poll day, Mandy stops by, tells Eli, you know, like, I stand by my story, and he is like, great, have a sausage.

[00:58:17] Like, I don't care. We killed it. Moving on. Jackie apologizes to Alicia because, you know, Alicia's like standing by her, by Peter, her son was so important, all of this stuff. And at the same time, she's holding her wine and she sees the bug and her wine. So, and even like Alicia's like, are you okay? Like, is everything okay?

[00:58:38] The fact that Jackie's here apologizing, she'll be the first sign. Like, uh, something's wrong with Jackie. And yeah, Jackie's looking like, you know, confused, upset. And Alicia, Alicia, for all, you know, all her warring with Jackie is, I think still she cares about her. Who cares about Jackie? So concerned. Like, are you all right?

[00:58:56] Like. Look like you're, you look like you looking on a roach. Are you okay? [00:59:00] Well, and even like she just was confused before even she saw that. Like just weird. Yeah. So then Eli gets a phone call from a guy named Jimmy V. And Jimmy V has a blog. It's always a blog and he says, I have a story that a national magazine is sitting on a story with a, about a rumor of Peter sleeping with a campaign worker.

[00:59:24] I'm sitting on it and I'm gonna hit publish in an hour. So do you, would you like to make a statement? And that's where we leave the episode. Dun dun dun. So, I mean, uh, I don't know what, I don't know what this is gonna like, I mean, listen a, a story, whether it's true or not, being out there is just, is bad, is a bad look in general.

[00:59:44] But I feel like, you know, it is pretty easily proven that this is not true. It's like, but like yeah. The fact that it's gonna be talked like Yeah, the fact it's out there at all is, is an issue. Yes. It brings up, it brings up Peter's past issues. Yes. So that's definitely not a good [01:00:00] look. Uh, and you gotta know, like, Christina's gotta be behind this boy.

[01:00:04] You, you are really banging that Christina drum. You, you think Christina is behind everything, uh, which he might be. He, he very well might. Definitely, probably is like behind everything. Bad and fair. Thank you. Thank you. You're welcome. You're welcome. Um, but yeah, that's, uh, we, I think we covered everything, right?

[01:00:23] That we, we, we, that was it. I mean, it was, it, it was, you know, there's a lot more space for other things when we don't have to deal with Kalinda and her husband. Oh yeah. So, so happy. We got so happy we got the week off from that storyline. It was good. So that, uh, it really, and you know, I Kalinda was back doing her kalinda things, right?

[01:00:42] She was investigating, she was being smart. She was catching the balloon lies talking on the phone only to Alicia. Yes. Yes. Uh, so yeah, that's our episode for the week. Uh, Marissa, do you wanna feel the good? Yeah. Do you wanna fill the good folks in? Good folks.
